Professional use of a moisture analyzer (moisture balance) in plastics processing

Online course for laboratories and quality control departments

Based on the LOD (Loss On Drying) method according to PN-EN ISO 15512:2019

This is not a course about pressing START – it’s knowledge that gives you an advantage

Many users assume that measuring moisture is as simple as pressing the START button. In reality, most measurement errors are not caused by equipment failure, but by improper sample preparation, incorrect interpretation of results, or the absence of a clearly defined measurement procedure.

The course “Moisture Balance in Practice” shows you how to perform measurements that are repeatable, reliable, and aligned with the real needs of quality control in plastics processing.

What does the LOD method mean?

LOD – Loss On Drying is a method for determining moisture content in materials based on weight loss during drying. The moisture analyzer (moisture balance) weighs the sample before and after controlled heating, then automatically calculates the moisture content based on the percentage of weight loss.

In this course, we explain how the process works, how to interpret the result, and how to avoid common mistakes that can distort your measurements.

What will you learn in this course?

🟢 How a moisture balance works – step by step
🟢 How to prepare the sample correctly to ensure accurate results
🟢 How to avoid common mistakes: contamination, ambient air moisture, unstable sample mass
🟢 How to interpret the result – what does 0.04% moisture actually mean for production?
🟢 How to create simple documentation – with sample measurement cards and checklists
🟢 How to implement a standardized measurement procedure in your company
🟢 How to reference ISO standard PN-EN ISO 15512:2019 in your internal quality system

Who is this course for?

This course is intended for anyone who performs moisture content measurements in plastics using a moisture balance – regardless of industry, device model, or level of experience.

🟢 Laboratory staff in production or R&D
🟢 Quality control departments
🟢 Process engineers and production managers
🟢 Operators responsible for evaluating incoming raw materials

What kind of devices are covered in the course?

This course covers typical laboratory moisture balances available on the European market, operating according to the LOD (Loss On Drying) method. These compact devices can be used not only in laboratory environments but also:

🟢 In process engineers’ offices – for fast evaluation of raw material batches
🟢 On the production floor – for ongoing control of materials during processing
🟢 In purchasing or logistics departments – to support sourcing decisions

Having a moisture analyzer close to the production environment allows for quick reactions to moisture variability in raw materials and reduces the risk of quality defects in final products.
